Curcumin (95%) is a compound from the herb turmeric.  It is extremely effective in relieving inflammation.  It does this by acting as a powerful COX-2 inhibitor.

When you relieve inflammation you relieve pain.  Inflammation is triggered by the release of hormone like compounds called prostaglandins and this inflammation is primarily sustained by the COX-2 enzyme. If it’s possible to inhibit the COX-2 enzyme, it’s possible to control inflammation.

Boswellia is an herb that is also very effective for pain and inflammation.  Its acts primarily by inhibiting the inflammatory enzyme, 5 LOX.  Because boswellia is an effective anti-inflammatory, it can be an effective painkiller and may prevent the loss of cartilage.
